Description:

In 1904, Fidelity Bank purchased an aging five story office and town clock in downtown Kansas City. By the roaring 20’s the bank outgrew its 19th century abode, and in 1930, construction began on an ambitious new skyscraper for the 20th Century. The tower paid homage to the original 1885 twin-spire building, but with a more timely Art Deco-Gothic Revival design (and 30 stories taller to boot).

It was in a symbolic gesture of "fidelity," that the original clock from the 1885 building, and bell cast in 1882, were hoisted up into the north spire. But in an unfortunate twist of fate, the bank quickly found itself a casualty of the Great Depression; it was liquidated just two years after the tower’s completion.

Today, the building stands as 909 Walnut Tower.
