San Pietro di Castello, Venice
The Basilica di San Pietro di Castello, is located in the Castello district of Venice, on a small island near the famous Arsenale. Dating to the 1490s its campanile (bell-tower), the first constructed of istrian marble, is modelled here with an impressive 5 degree lean. Abandoned for its more famous cousin San Marco in 1807, it’s maintained through ongoing conservation efforts, and stands testament to that.
