Description:

On October 3rd, 2019, the Berliner Fernsehturm (Berlin TV Tower) celebrated its 50th Birthday. I love this building through and through and this release is my 3rd version of it for Cities:Skylines. I’m happy to publish it as my last asset in a special series to celebrate #PDXCON2019, which kicks off tomorrow at the Funkhaus. This asset, and the five others that belong with it, are all scaled 1:1. They will plop on top of one-another and snap into nearby roads like puzzle pieces. It’s been great fun recreating this iconic structure and the surrounding plaza.

Updates that I made for the 1969-2019 edition:

  • completely remodeled the transmission area above the ball
  • added new satellite and microwave dishes, cell transmitters, floors and fences
  • re-scaled the entire structure once again
  • corrected the proportions on the antenna and its red and white rings
  • modeled a new basket for the tippy top
  • corrected massive errors in the vertical dimensions of the base building
  • added the pedestrian tunnels through the base building
  • changed all pillars from squares to hexagons
  • developed a new system to light the column with the help of modders Boformer and Elektrix
  • added two sub-buildings and dozens of additional lighting props
  • re-positioned the asset origin and plot size to plop on top of the bases and allow road access
  • added detail to geometry around the base, including pedestals for the new spotlights

Total plot size with hexagonal bases: 20×29
Main model TRIS: 10,622
maps: 2048×2048 (diffuse, alpha, specular, illumination, normal)
custom LOD tris: 1,004
LOD maps: 512×512 (diffuse, specular, illumination, normal)
subs are invisible and exist only to hold props, expand the footprint, and influence pathing

Placement note:

The terrain in Berlin gets lower as you go towards the Spree. The west base and Wasserkaskaden should be lower than than the main Fernsehturm asset and east base. Here is a MoveIt! export file that includes this asset, both bases, the fountain, mega-spotlights and fountain lights.

Don’t forget to enable Boformer’s Custom Effects Loader mod so the lights work as intended.

I hope you like this work! For updates on everything I create, pls consider following me on Twitter. Have fun! And if you’re coming to #PDXCON2019, see you there!
