Fallingwater is a house in rural southwestern Pennsylvania designed by US architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935. The house was built partly over a waterfall located in the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains. The house was designed as a weekend home for the family of Liliane Kaufmann and her husband, Edgar J. Kaufmann Sr., owner of Kaufmann’s Department Store.
Fallingwater stands as one of Wright’s greatest masterpieces both for its dynamism and for its integration with its striking natural surroundings. Fallingwater has been described as an architectural tour de force of Wright’s organic architecture. Wright’s passion for Japanese architecture was strongly reflected in the design of Fallingwater, particularly in the importance of interpenetrating exterior and interior spaces and the strong emphasis placed on harmony between man and nature.
The fireplace hearth in the living room integrates boulders found on the site and upon which the house was built — ledge rock which protrudes up to a foot through the living room floor was left in place to demonstrably link the outside with the inside.
The house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and in 1991, members of the American Institute of Architects named Fallingwater the "best all-time work of American architecture".
This asset has two animated elements built in.
- The river and waterfall are animated to create a realistic flow without the need for water.
- The fireplace flames flicker.
No mods are required for the animations to work but they do need electricity.
I would like to thank Kaminogi for allowing me to use the original files from the fantastic Animated Waterfall Pack to make the water animations for this asset.
This asset uses transparent glass allowing a view of the interior which has been’ furnished’ based upon the actual house interior. Check out the SketchFab model and you can really have a look around inside.
- Fallingwater
- Terrain Flattener ‘FW TF-8m’
- Fallingwater Landscape (Full) Move It export XML.

- Prop & Tree Anarchy
- First Person Camera: Updated
For the house to look as spectacular as it does in reality I have recreated the landscape and water as part of the asset. This can make it tricky get things looking good in game so I have created two ways of getting good results.
The instructions below relate to the numbered images above and the tutorial video by PugGaming (many thanks to him for creating this). Option 2 requires you to copy the Move It export file to the correct location on your computer.
Copy the .xml file from:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/255710/2089074220/
PC: C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppsworkshopcontent2557102089074220
Paste it in:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/MoveItExports/
PC: %LOCALAPPDATA%Colossal OrderCities_SkylinesMoveItExports
Option 1: Manual Placement
- 1-2: Plop the house on an incline.
- 3-5: Lower the house with the Move It mod using ‘Page Down’ and rotate it until the back rock is flush with the ground.
- 6-8: Do a Find It search for "FW", plop down the ‘FW TF-8m’ Terrain Flattener to the side of the house and use the Move It picker to select this element. This will make selection much easier.
- 9-23: Copy and place, move and lower/raise (PgDn/PgUp) the flattener several times (as shown) to form the correct landscape.
- 24-28: Place a section of road outside the house area and move it into location and set the correct height. Once this is done an extra flattener can be copied to smooth the slope.
- 29-32: Using the Landscaping Tools, form the path of the river either side and lower the land at the front.
Option 2: Fallingwater Landscape (Full) Import
- 1-2: Open the Move It import pane, import Fallingwater Landscape (Full) and plop it down on an incline.
- 3: Lower the house with the Move It mod using ‘Page Down’ and rotate it until the back rock is flush with the ground.
- 4: Do a Find It search for "FW", plop down the ‘FW TF-8m’ Terrain Flattener to the side of the house and use the Move It picker to select this element. This will make selection much easier. Adjust the flatteners if necessary.

This is one of a series of architectural ‘Design Classics’. If you have any suggestions for great buildings to add to the build list please leave a comment below. I can’t promise that your suggestion will make the final list but I will consider it.
If you really, really like my assets please consider making a donation. I’m unable to work because of ill health and do this because I love the positive feedback I get from so many people.
