Thermometersiedlung, Building 1
Thermometersiedlung 1 (Berlin) by Yosh
Berlin-Lichterfelde. The “Thermometersiedlung” is a large housing estate that was built in 1968-74 on the outskirts of West-Berlin. Following the urban development concept of ´functional separation´, car traffic and pedestrian traffic are spatially separated. This resulted in pedestrian areas apart from the street space dominated by the car. These include local supply centers, which – as pedestrian zones – have emerged in central areas of large housing estates. Striking for this time are the continuous canopies, which sometimes have covered paths to allow a dry but also sun-protected path between the individual shops.
Two-storey building with shop and warehouse on the ground floor and office and / or apartment on the upper floor. The fronts of the shops are clinkered. Provide the fronts of the residential buildings with yellow plaster. The plaster on the back is painted blue-gray.
My motivation for this set was to add a residential area in my city consisting mainly of residential and commercial buildings from the 1970s to a shop line from this period that was authentic in its architecture. The street connection for these assets is deliberately located on the back of the building in order to enable an authentic forecourt free of car and delivery traffic.
The time required for this asset is around 20 hours. The night illuminations use authentic tenant usage. Damage to individual facade elements and signs of vandalism are original.
Many thanks to SvenBerlin for comprehensive recommendations for correction and the creation of suitable advertising boards.
