Gerard Doustraat Synagogue
Background:
I was frustrated with both the lack of synagogues and the lack of Dutch assets on the workshop, so I decided to teach myself how to use Blender to make this! It’s my first asset, so its a bit rough compared to some more polished work from more experienced creators. I built it for the Jewish Quarter in my youtube series Vogelstad.
Information:
The Gerard Dou Synagogue is the oldest functioning Ashkenazi synagogue in Amsterdam. Built in 1892, it features a red brick facade with white horizontal stripes and accents. Two tall, arched paned windows are placed above the entryway, with a round Star-of-David window above them.
Because of the Synagogue’s humble appearance and location between two row houses on the narrow Gerard Doustraat, it was not recognized by the Nazis as a Jewish house of worship and thus emerged from WWII unscathed.
