The Oasis
An oasis-like, desert-ish map. A dam built in the middle of a desert to fertilize the land surrounding the oasis. Lush vegetation thrives near the waterfront but when going further away from the oasis vegetation becomes more sparse, whereas the far surroundings are fully desertificated. I see this landscape as a versatile plot of land as it suits multiple different types of cities ranging from farm fields to a metropolis. The ground is not completely flat, yet it is easily terraformed to flatten areas for building. With that said, it is obvious that this map will by some means challenge you to come up with creative ideas to claim land effectively. If you love natural scenery, I think you’ll love this map as well as there’s no shortage of scenery here!
A quick list-styled description of this map:
• Only 155K trees.
• Detailed, but not to the extreme level.
• Pre-existing networking kept at minimum to place emphasis on a sandbox-like experience.
• Shipping routes not present! For obvious reasons.
• Apart from shipping, this map supports all other transportation modes.
• No oil.
• The pre-built dam does not produce electricity due to it’s height. Done this way for visual (and water level steadiness relared) reasons.
• Pre-built sewage treatment facilites to solve early game sewage issues. The lake does not have waterflow, as lakes naturally don’t flow too much. The pipeline has been drawn all the way to the start square.
• Varying terrain heights. See the end of the screenshots for a heighmap!
• Decided to use the NExt2 mod instead of using the Mass Transit national road to make this map available to everyone.
Mods used in screenshots:
LUT: Relight 3 Kali
Daylight Classic (all to classic)
Clouds & Fog Toggler (disable clouds and edge fog)
Tree LOD fix (ultra)
I’d also like to note that I use the Windows Night Light at 50% intensity myself, which has an effect on visuals in-game as well. It makes all my maps look a bit warmer.
Other recommended mods:
81 Tiles to expand your city further. I think this map will give you plenty of build space with the vanilla 25 tiles too, though.
Prop & Tree anarchy to prevent some trees from disappearing at launch.
If you come across any bugs / issues, please let me know down in the comments. I’ll do my best to make up time to patch up any possible errors! Also feel free to post any questions, critique, compliments, whatever you want to!
