Description:

Former southern gate of the Imperial City during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Built in the Yongle period of the Ming dynasty, the gate was originally named the "Great Ming Gate". Its name was then changed to the "Great Qing Gate" during the Qing dynasty and after the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1912, the gate’s name was renamed to the "Gate of China".
It was demolished in 1954 during the expansion of Tiananmen Square.
