Convocation Tower
The Convocation Tower was proposed in 1921 for the site of the second Madison Square Garden in New York City. This 1000 foot tall 80 story tower would have become the world’s tallest building at completion. The structure was to house a church on the bottom floors while the rest of the tower would be used for office space.
It was the conception of architect Bertrand Grosvenor Goodhue. Two other notable works of his are the Nebraska State Capitol and the Los Angeles Library. After his death in 1924 the plans for the skyscraper were scrapped and instead the New York Life Insurance Building was built to replace MSG II.
