First National Bank Tower

The First National Bank Tower (got to be the most typical name for a city’s large skyscraper I have ever seen) is the tallest building in Omaha, Nebraska, and the rest of Nebraska for that matter. There are two very notable things about this building: it is much, much taller than any other building in Omaha, and it was built so high as to 1-up Des Moines, Iowa’s tallest building. Secondly, a building called the Medical Arts Building was imploded in 1999 to make room for this skyscraper, but a large chunk of the original facade from that building was kept inside of the glass lobby of the modern building. I really liked that detail when I learned about it.

The First National Bank Tower is a 634 ft (193 m),[3] 45-story skyscraper at 1601 Dodge Street in downtown Omaha, Nebraska.[4] Completed in 2002,[4] it is currently the tallest building in the city of Omaha, and in the state of Nebraska, and has been since its completion, overtaking the 478 ft (146 m), 30-story Woodmen Tower located nearby.[5] It was built on the site of the former Medical Arts Building, which was imploded on April 2, 1999 to make way for the current skyscraper. Inside the glass lobby is a large section of the ornamental facade from the former Medical Arts Building that once stood there. The First National Bank Tower also hosts Trek up the Tower, a vertical stair climb race up to the top of the tower. This race is presented by The Wellness Council of the Midlands.
