Hong Kong City Hall High Block Library

Still finding the best-fit principal library for your city? Preferably a multi-storey and high coverage one? This is it! In fact, this mid-20th century Bauhaus-style building is a very famous cultural landmark in Hong Kong! It housed the city’s first public library and the city’s former principal public library. Maybe it will also be the first building to create some historical moments for your city! If that convinces you, click the subscribe button and try it yourself!

Don’t mistake Hong Kong City Hall for Government Offices! Unlike many municipal halls in other parts of the world which usually housed the city’s government, the Hong Kong City Hall was built to function primarily as a performing, conference and exhibition venue (e.g. library, concert hall). Governmental services are provided in another type of municipal buildings called the Government Offices.
A cultural centre for three million people… ‘The City Hall to be erected here will be the hope and value of the life of Hong Kong people!’ Sir Robert Black, 23rd Governor of Hong Kong

The design of the block features the use of modernist elements like clean lines and stark geometric forms, which were fashionable at the time. The block was the first few public buildings in the city that were not built in colonial style. It set off an architectural trend in Hong Kong, and had become a landmark design for Hong Kong architecture through the 1960s.
Repetitive Grid Facade
The simple design and repeat of modules are major characteristics of modern architecture. The use of a concrete grid as the structure’s facade is an answer to the use of thinner external walls. It also protects the windows from direct sunlight and raining since the window frames are set back.
Rectangular Boxy Appearance
The building has adopted a simple rectangular plan so that the exterior of the building becomes a simple box shape. It is an explicit reflection of "form follows function", a principle associated with 20th-century modern architecture and industrial design.

Special Notes1. The required items are optional. You may subscribe to them if you want to see the roof props. These props are carefully selected, and are very essential items for creating a realistic looking rooftop.
2. Install Ultimate Level of Detail (ULOD) to increase the props’ render distance. Set Prop LOD Distance to more than 1000m if you don’t want the props to disappear or distort when zooming out.
3. Mods were used when taking the screenshots. Your mileage may vary with different lighting conditions, LUT used, choice of visual mods, and among other factors.
4. This replica is not necessarily an exact recreation of the real object.
