Kraanspoor
Kraanspoor is a very special 3 storey office building erected on the base of an old concrete kraanspoor (craneway) structure ind the harbor of Amsterdam. The building has a length of over 300m and features 4 staircases. The 3 storeys of offices are offset by one storey making them appear almost like they are flyingt. The texture of the old concrete has been fixed up and preserved.
Kraanspoor is a very successful part of the revitalisation of an industrial area. The most successful/special aspects for me are:
– renovation of the craneway structure instead of destroying it
– adding a focal point to the redeveloping area
– smart choice of materials in terms of sustainability (the additions had to be super lightweight)
– great balance between imposing and sleek appearance
This has been a project of my heart for the past 4 years (yes I started in 2018 whoops). It’s one of the reasons I started doing asset creation, but at the time I just didn’t have the skill to finish a building of this size. Funny enough it’s the biggest building I’ve released to this day.
Technical stuff:
Kraanspoor is 300m long. This is way too long for any reasonable plot in CS so expect the building to be twice the size of what it appears to be on it’s footprint.
It works as a unique building with the stats of the vanilla Aqarium.
You have to place it near a road but can then place it freely. The real building is located in the water so I added the possibility to do that as well (no ground flattening).
The building contains multiple sub-buildings to span the enormous length, but also to integrate the various semi-transparent glass pieces. Transparency LoD’s fix mod is recommended but not mandatory – just looks better.
