Description:

Vecmīlgrāvis (latvianized from German “Mühlengraben” – engl. “old mill race”) is a neighbourhood in the Northern District of Riga, Latvia. The basic layout of this map is based on that area. However, it’s not meant to be a replica. I included several features of different beautiful Latvian landscapes and made the area a bit more hilly.

Also the road layout is not fully true to the original, but I tried to implement some characteristic intersections and typical traffic layouts, like such fun and safe solutions as terribly short weaving lanes or u-turns in the middle of high-traffic priority roads (TMPE will be needed to match design with functionality).
Most intersections will probably not be able to handle heavy traffic later on. But isn’t redesigning the traffic solutions to match the city’s progress anyway one of the most fun parts of this game?

Highway connections: 5
Train connections: 3
Ship paths: 2
Flight paths: 2
Buildable area: 67%
All resources available, partly used for painting

I tried to recreate Riga’s Hydroelectric Power Plant, which will grant you ~600 MW free energy, if you want to connect to it.

Topographically, the map is not very challenging, there is enough flat space for a large city and to play with 25 tiles. Still, it is aimed at people, who like to play a modded game.

Latvia is rich in wonderful forests, bogs, wetlands, drainage canals and water and I wanted to put an emphasis on these aspects. Hence, you will need any Unlimited Trees Mod and make sure, the settings allow for more than 800,000 trees! (I used Tree Anarchy 1.3.5 when creating the map and I also suggest using this mod. I suggest to bulldoze trees, when you plan to build over them instead of letting the game just hide them. I used mainly pdelmo’s and Greyflame’s excellent low poly trees, for the one exception of MrMaison’s Silver Birch tree, as there’s a lack of birches on the workshop but they are obligatory for a Northern themed map.
For the proper look of shorelines and swamps, you need to activate “no dead trees at shoreline” in No Radioactive Desert and More! or any other mod that allows that option.

Nodes and intersections were edited with Intersection Marking tool and Node Controller Renewal.
I suggest having these mods activated, as I also didn’t optimize the nodes without them.

Some Render It! tweaks

Theme Mixer 2:
Base Theme: Laviante
Grass Texture: Euro
Ore Texture: SCT-Homecoming
Water Normal: SCT-Homecoming
Water Foam: SCT-Homecoming
Water: Euro 4k
And some minor sund and weather changes.
If you want to use the same settings, you can use my theme mix added in the map collection.

You need to let the simulation run for a few in-game days to let the water settle. Around quays placed in map editor, the water always unsettles when starting a new game.

I hope you enjoy the map and please rate up if you like it!
