Description:

Originally discovered by the Greeks, hence the name Eiríni – meaning peace, this Mediterranean island, west of Spain, has been lived on for a long time. It started with a British settlement and a castle being built, along with a university, all in 1798. Soon though, the castle fell into ruin, and expansion was not necessary, as only the students lived on the island.

Many years came and went, until, in 1912, the UK struck gold – black gold. Soon a massive oil and ore industry was set up, and plastic and petrol was shipped worldwide. This meant that the island had a huge amount of spare cash. It was spent on the university, a tourism district, proper housing and even a zoo.

As time went on, the city grew, and money never fell short. The islands tourism area was growing rapidly and, during the holiday boom of the 60’s, so was the demand. So the decision was made to add a concert hall to the castle, overlooking the sea, while the tourism industry grew. And grew, it did. In the 1990s, the island’s now dilapidated zoo got a huge upgrade, becoming an exotic place, with the nearby private airport allowing freedom of travel.

Sooner or later, the housing crept up the hill, leading the way in Eco-friendly housing. So far, in the late 1990s – where the island is now set – the island is a huge asset to the UK, and both a historic monument and a crazy tourist island – all with a great uni.
