Ivan Turgenev Museum, Moscow
The I. S. Turgenev Museum (House of Mumu) is a wooden mansion built after the Moscow fire of 1812 on Ostozhenka Street, 37, where I. S. Turgenev’s mother V. P. Turgenev lived in 1840-1850, and where the events that made up the outline of the story "Mumu" took place. In 2007, the writer’s museum was founded in the house. After the Moscow fire of 1812, the plot on Ostozhenka, which was in the possession of Lieutenant General K. F. Knorring, was acquired by titular adviser D. N. Fedorov. Built in 1819, a one-story Empire—style mansion typical of post—fire construction – with a six-column portico, mezzanines and seven windows along the facade – Fedorov began to rent out. In the 1820s, among the tenants were the Aksakov family, a participant in the Patriotic War of 1812, N. V. Levashov. In the 1830s, the house was associated with the names of A. S. Pushkin’s entourage.
