Hello Folks,

for my first asset of the new year I can present you these two little fellas. These so called "ASF" are small shunting engines used within train depots and industrial areas to move locomotives and wagons around. One could say they are the train equivalent of a pallet jack.

These are a trip back to my modeling roots, as I started my journey with train modeling. My first project was one of these, started over 3 years ago (maybe even 4!). Back then I meant to create it for the Microsoft Train Simulator, a game I spend tons of hours in back then. Obviously I had to scrap that outdated project file, instead I restarted the project, now with the aim to bring it to Cities Skylines.

Make sure to give me feedback, report bugs you encounter or just type out your general thoughts on this vehicle, so I can use that feedback to improve upcoming vehicles!

The LEW EL16, mostly called "ASF" which stands for "Akkuschleppfahrzeug" (battery-powered towing vehicle) are East German shunting vehicles built from 1966 on-wards.
Over the span of 24 years, the "VEB Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke „Hans Beimler“ Hennigsdorf" (LEW) produced around 500 of these little engines, and most of them are still used up to this day.
Despite their small size, they still weigh 12 metric tonnes, mostly because of the two heavy batteries inside the vehicle.
Their top speed is a measly 6km/h, but their power lets them easily handle even the biggest of steam engines.
Moving around engines in train depots was their main priority, especially steam and electric engines which couldn’t move themselves onto turntables.

The two depicted engines are inspired by original color schemes, but the ASF 01 and ASF 02 probably never existed that way.
Both shunters are defined as passenger trains with zero capacity. To make them work like shunters, you have to create "fake" stations with these assets.
Afterwards you connect these stations via the line tool and assign these vehicles to the line.

To prevent the vehicle from spawning as a intercity train and clogging up your train traffic, use the Advanced Vehicle Options Mod and uncheck the "allow this vehicle to spawn" option. Instead assign it to a custom train line via the Improved Public Transport 2 Mod

For more info, read the description of REV0’s (Shunter) DB 132 ‘Ludmilla’, where I got the idea from.

The vehicles max speed is slightly higher than the original, 10km/h (2 in-game).
Both vehicles have no color mapping.
The taillights are working.

If you want a prop version of the vehicle I advise you to use the Tree and Vehicle Props Mod and its Patch.
I don’t want to waste too much time on creating prop versions of each vehicle, so using this mod is the better option for now.
