"On the south side of 42nd Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, John A. Larkin proposed the Larkin Tower or (Larkin Building), a 110-story, 1,208-foot-tall (368 m) office skyscraper clad mainly in stone and steel, which would have been the world’s tallest building. The floor area of the Larkin Tower’s upper stories would have been so small as to be economically infeasible, and critics also disapproved of what was then an extreme height, leading to its cancellation in 1930. Part of the site then became the present 330 West 42nd Street. Many of the surrounding tenements had been converted to office buildings by the 1930s." Quoted from Wikipedia
