Description:

Namitsu-Jima (波つ 島), or Wave Island is my contribution to the Japanese island map category. The lore has it that this cozy and highly detailed island group was abandonned due to a devastating earthquake and tsunami. The bridges have now been rebuilt and the islands are ready for repopulation and development into nearly anything you can dream of. Want fishing towns? Go ahead, map has all fish types including tuna and salmon. Tropical beach resorts and national parks? I’m not stopping you. A Hong Kong or Busan, South Korea style metropolis between the hills? It works. I imagine you could even go so far and build a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil style city on the map, if you disregard (or delete) some of the Japanese details such as the Shinto shrine or the terraced farms. You could also double down on the natural serenity and remoteness with buddist monestaries and temples scattered all across the islands. Anything goes. You decide.

BACKGROUND

This map is based on a 1:1 terrain heightmap of the Koshikijima Islands, just of the southwest coast of Kyshu, Japan. The map is centered around Kamikoshiki-jima (上甑島) which is the second largest and northernmost island of the archipelago.

DLCS & MODS

Mass Transit DLC and Pearls From the East Free DLC are REQUIRED FOR THIS MAP. There is a Mass Transit DLC free version map with the original 2+2 roads for the main outside connection route. The map may work fine without the Pearls From the East DLC since I have only used it to place a single non-functional sub-building on the map but since it is free for everyone to get, this shouldn’t be an issue. I have also setup some networks with basic Intersection Marking Tool and TM:PE settings so if you use these mods that should be in your game already. The mods are not required but I would recommend them. Same goes for Network Anarchy mod which will make it easier for you to edit some of the original networks. No collision and anarchy will let you place and upgrade roads without deleting old abandonned buildings and other details on the map.

THEMES & VISUALS

I have setup this map to work great with the defualt vanilla tropical map theme and this is what you can see in the preview pictures together with the Laviante LUT. You can ofcourse choose whatever you like. Keep in mind that I use other mods that also affect visuals such as Daylight Classic, Cubemap Replacer, and Clouds & Fog Toggler, so the map may look different in your game even if theme and LUT is setup the same way.

DISCLAIMERS

If you’re having troubles with the outside connections and delivieries, e.g. coal supply to coal power plants, this may mean you’re having pathfinding issues and that the game can’t find a fast enough route from the map edge. I have updated the map to have national roads from Mass Transit DLC with a higher speed limt which should fix this issue but if your still having issues you could try to get rail and ship cargo going. The map is an island and logistical issues like these would be pretty realistic. Starting with wind power works perfectly fine by the way. Just putting that in here. When testing the map with no mods at all, I had no issues getting the town inhabited and growing using only wind turbines. The map doesn’t have any obvious location for an airport. However, this is also kinda realistic and this hasn’t stopped the Japanese from finding solutions[upload.wikimedia.org]. I don’t claim to know Japanese and therefore the map name might sound weird for a native speaker but it shouldn’t be offensive atleast.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Thanks to NoMercy for the name idea (Namitsu is an anagram of tsunami). Arigato SakuraCS for Japanese language consulting and confirming that the name isn’t completely bonkers. Thanks to Grahtles and Gemzen for finding the issue with delivieries that I hadn’t found during my own testing. Thanks to E6GSY for helping me find some imperfections and clipping trees.
