The city has expanded into the early stages of its outlying suburbs, as well as a few unique areas. The concrete jungle is starting to give way to more greenery in its outskirts.

What’s in the city?
  • Downtown with skyscrapers
  • Highway with multiple offramps
  • Massive interchanges
  • Waterfront(s)
  • Parks
  • Public transports (still in development)
  • Suburbs, mid-lowrise developments
  • A banana park
  • Planetarium
  • Large industrial complex
  • Pre-planned road networks
  • Massive Airport
  • University campus
  • Nuclear power plant

Where is City of Thando?

City of Thando is nestled in between four main rivers meeting at its shores. Surrounded by mountains all round, the city is bathed in lush green plains in the summer months, and icy cold snow-capped mountains in the winter. The fresh waters from the mountains, coupled with the melting snow in the spring months, leads to flowing rivers and lakes on its landscapes. This is the story of a city that developed on these plains.

Inspiration for the city

I take a lot of inspiration from all sorts of cities. The aim of this project is to build something big and sprawling. The downtown is meant to be dense and compact, whilst the outskirts give way to more ‘friendly’ spaces. I look to my own city of Johannesburg for a lot of inspiration, but also to other cities around the world such as Vancouver and Singapore. The city isn’t based in any real life country, as a result, it isn’t inspired by one single place.

Savegame info and requirements

The assets and mods required for this city are a lot:

  • ~9000 assets
  • ~40 or so mods
  • Consider all DLCs a requirement

Asset collections

Note that some of the collections contain other collections so be sure to scroll down to the bottom of each collection and subscribe to them. In some cases, I use a subset of items in a linked collection, simply because it’s easier, and it avoids me hitting the asset collection limit. If a collection is linked, it means I’m subscribed to the majority of assets in that collection. If you subscribe to everything that’s linked in all collections, you could very well end up with over 10k assets! I strongly suggest using the in-game option of subscribing to the required assets and then manually subscribe to the missing ones. The Loading Screen Mod can help in identifying missing assets.

As a reference, I run an i9 9900K CPU, 64Gb RAM @3000Mhz and a RTX3080Ti GPU. My load time is approximately 9mins with Loading Screen Mod. In-game, I get ~10 FPS when looking at the city with the game speed set to 50% using Speed Slider and graphics level of detail set to medium.

If you run into problems loading the game, I strongly suggest having a look at the game logs to try determine what the issue is. Consider using the Compatibility Checker mod to troubleshoot. If all else fails, you can post your problem in a generic manner to the Cities Skylines sub-reddit and I’m sure someone will be able to assist.

You can also join my Discord server[discord.gg] where myself or any of the awesome people on the server can try help you out.

Please be sure give it a like if you enjoy browsing the city as it serves as a good motivation for me to keep sharing.
