Hitachi Driverless Metro Skyline
The Hitachi Rail Italy Driverless Metro is an electric train used in light metro systems. The trains are controlled by fully automatic systems and have no operator onboard. Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) opened the Skyline service on June 30, 2023. They operate the Driverless Metro in a 4 car configuration on a 9 station route with expansions planned for the future. Each car holds 195 people. The system is the newest metro system in the US and feature platform screen doors, a first in the country. The Skyline is Hawaii’s biggest public works project.
