Davisville Junior Public School

Davisville Junior Public School is an elementary school located in Toronto Ontario, Canada. The school was constructed in 1962 and designed by "Frederick Etherington" and "Peter Pennington". The schools expressionist style would make it a well known facet among Canadian architects and architecture fans with its most defining feature being its swooped "gull-wing" roof designs. The building itself would house the aforementioned Davisville Junior Public School as well as the Metropolitan Toronto School for the Deaf (MTSD); with the MTSD wing of the building receiving a small expansion in 1966. Due to repairs and upgrades needed to bring the building up to modern standards the Toronto District School Board would opt to have the building torn down and a new school constructed on its site. This would be met with opposition from many groups such as the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario who urged to TDSB to preserve the building and the City of Toronto would consider giving the building "Heritage" status thus protecting it from demolition. This would not happen though and in 2019 the TDSB which by now was the sole tenant in the building after the MTSD move out in 2014 would close the building and begin demolition and construction of a new school, with the new school opening in 2021.
The school features: 33 Standard Classrooms, 5 Kindergarten Rooms, Lunchroom, Gym, and Library.
