Description:

I’m very proud to present Fairfield Station (or a relatively close approximation of it). This is a two-platform station along with the Edwardian Signal Box. I’ve extended the platforms in order to accommodate my 7-car HCMT which will presumably actually happen at some point. The bridge is actually used by pedestrians, but you will have to suspend your belief a bit because the cims like jumping from the top of the bridge onto the ground. This was as close as I could get and special thanks to Clus for saving many many hours of frustration.

The tris increased a fair bit due to the stairs as well as the inclusion of the chain-link fence. I believe the fence would be relatively lighter on tris overall than if I used props and given that I had extra space on my texture map, thought that it would be a worthwhile trade-off. The chain link fence is fundamentally similar to Soldyne’s (I used the same source), but with smaller links. If you are interested in me releasing this separately as a prop or network (if I can figure out the latter), leave a comment below.

I was running into errors when I was trying to place props in the asset editor with this building and after multiple attempts, gave up. As I was only going to place the Myki Readers and Myki Ticket Box and leave the remaining props to be added by users, I’ve left these up to you as well. You will see some props and the fence as those are part of the mesh and the texture.

Notes: From what I can tell, the current buildings were built in the Edwardian era and is close to my residential series (which seems to have stalled at the moment). However, it is the first train station I used after moving to Australia, so it holds a special place in my heart.

My experience on getting this station to work makes me a bit hesitant to jump onto another one very quickly, but here are my thoughts for future ones:
Elevated "Classic" Two-Platform: Collingwood Station
Elevated "New" Platform: Rosanna Station or possibly Hawkstowe railway station (both under construction)
Ground Four-Platform: Caulfield Station
Rural Small Two Platform: Tyabb Station (Technically it is a one platform)
Sunken Platforms: Attempt one of the new stations along the Frankston Line.

Please let me know if you know if you think there is a more quintessential classic station than Collingwood and Caulfield. There was a request to do Southern Cross, but unless someone has detailed plans of it from multiple views, I think it is beyond my skill to recreate the curves on the top.

Special Thanks to Clus for volunteering information saving me hours of less trial and error than I still spent on getting the bloody pedestrian path to work. More thanks to Boformer and Bloody Penguin for their work on supporting the mod community and to all those great people over at Simtropolis.

Bored and want to see WIP pics? I have started posting on Twitter (see link to right)
