Description:

The evangelist church St. Andreas is the largest church building in Weißenburg (Germany) and its east tower with 65m the tallest structure in the historical city core. It was built from 1294 to 1327 on the place of a previous church. The choir (quire) was built later and was intended to be the first part of a new, slightly rotated church building, which however was never finished. So it was integrated into the existing building, which leads to the noticable bent of 12° in the interior dome (not obviously visible from the outside). This also explains the place of the spire (east tower) set in front of the choir and finished in 1520. Further additions and modifications followed over the centuries. In 2007 the organ was renovated and inaugurated with a church service and concert.

Today the church is used by the "Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirchengemeinde Weißenburg i. Bay.".
