AdvancedOutsideConnection

Hey, Folks!
I’m happy to share my first self-made mod with you.
Indeed, there are already some outside connection related mods in the workshop, but at least as far as I know, none of them handles the name customization. This was the core idea of this, but I think I will advance it even further.
* customize names by either one single name or even a list of names
* manipulate the amount of dummy, tourist, residential and cargo traffic by plain values
* allow/deny import and export
* adjust the actual import and export goods percentage distribution
And each of the above mentioned can be applied to each connection individually via an handmade UI!
1) This marker is for the people who are not able to find the UI panel. You have to click on the Info-View Button on the top-left of your screen and navigate downwards and hit the “Outside Connection” Button.
2) This is the Icon column for the type of the Outside Connection (Road, Train, Ship and Plane)
3) This column shows the name of each connection. You can customize it on the details panel, too. This does nothing to the names shown in the vehicle as destination or source. This is just an identifier you can customize as you wish.
4) Is it an import (in) or export (out) connection? Roads usually just have a single direction, while the others are usually both. You can customize this on the details panel via these two checkboxes, but only when it makes sense (you can not apply e.g. “out”-direction to a one-way highway which is already “in”-direction).
5) This button brings you to the detail panel for the specific connection.
6) This is the value for the dummy traffic. It is clamped between 0 and 1.000.000. 0 disables all dummy traffic generated by this connection.
7) This alters the generated amount of cargo. It is clamped between 0 and 1.000.000. 0 disables all cargo traffic generated by this connection.
8) This alters the residential traffic generation, which is directly related to the city demand. It is clamped between 0 and 1.000.000. 0 disables all residential traffic generated by this connection.
9) Here you can modify the tourist wealthiness factor. The higher you put the factor, the likelier the connection will spawn a tourist, but they are also correlated to each other. 0 will disable tourist generation from this connection.
10) Those two buttons should look familiar to you. The left of is the location marker, which moves the camera near to the actual outside connection position and shows a marker on the map. But this button will only be visible when the “unlimited camera” is activated (via mod or debug panel).
The right one displays the traffic routes to that specific outside connection. Use it to find the one you are looking for.
11) This is the panel which regulates ratio between the different goods on import and export. You can adjust them as you like. Keep in mind, if the “out”-direction is disabled, you won’t see the export tab. The same applies for the “in”-direction and the import tab.
12) This is the actual part of the name generator. If you check "Vanilla" nothing will change to the original game. If you check “Custom Single” you have the possibility to declare one name and if you check “Custom Random” you can apply multiple names from which the mod will randomly choose.
I tried to create the mod as harmless as possible for the save files. I only change the internal flag, which will be reverted after each loading process. So, I think it should be a save one for your files 😉
If you play around with the direction settings, please keep in mind how it the game actually works. This game is offer driven, this means that each connection frequently creates import and export offers. The game will try to match those offers, which means if there are too many export offers, they won’t all be accepted and vice versa.
[1.1]
* Addition of tourist factor settings into the detail panel
[1.2]
* Addition of CargoCapacity and ResidentCapacity settings
* Addition of import and export goods panel
* fixing some inconveniences and bugs
[1.2.1]
* consider DLC ownage for the import/export panel
[1.4]
* add some quality of life features for random names (clear, copy, paste buttons)
Users are now able to copy the whole set of defined names to their clipboard and will receive a new-line separated string. You can also paste prepared strings to the random names panel.
* the import/export ratio has been slightly reworked, so that it is easier to use. You can now set a specific ratio via slider for each resource and the percentage panel will tell you the actual percentage how likely this resource will appear, without manipulating any other resource.
* a reset import/export button has been added.
