Dessau. “House with balcony access” built in 1930. Starting from the free-standing staircase, the apartments are accessed via the so-called arcade. The arcades are usually located on the noise-immanent side, the street side and / or the north side. The kitchen and bathroom are usually assigned here. The actual living rooms (bedrooms and living rooms) are located on the other side, which is generally quieter and the south-facing side. The construction was simple at the time, in order to be able to offer housing for the working class at low cost. But at the time, the apartments were also modernly equipped.
The “House with balcony access” is part of the UNESCO World Heritage “Bauhaus Style Buildings”. In addition to the arcade with the staircase in front, the red clinker brick, the yellowish lintels, the bicycle boxes below the lowest arcade and the coal flaps are style-defining.
First, my motivation for building this asset is my personal appreciation for the Bauhaus style as the cornerstone of German / European architectural history. Secondly, I have a small settlement with European Bauhaus architecture in my city, which is rounded off by this asset.
The require for this asset is around 20-25 hours. The relatively large number of windows took their time with UV mapping. Doors, windows, coal flaps etc. as well as almost all window decorations are original. This also applies to the color differences of the bicycle boxes and individual ailing wooden strips.
